Marangu Route

Marangu Route: This is the oldest route on the Kilimanjaro. It being the first and oldest, it makes it the most popular also. It is also the main route on the Kilimanjaro with huts for accommodation. Being the first route, it was well planned. The Mandara and Kibo points have about 60 beds and the Horombo point has 120 beds.

Marangu Route

The tour operator or the hiker themselves will have to just provide a mattress for themselves. If you use the Marangu route you will need five days. The completion rate for this route is low as it is usually booked by inexperienced and young hikers.

Day One – From Marangu Gate (1,870 meters) to Mandara Hut (2,700 meters)

Day Two– From Mandara Hut (2,700 meters) to Horombo Hut (3,720 meters)

Day Three – From Horombo Hut (3,720 meters) to Kibo Hut (4,700 meters)

Day Four –From  Kibo Hut (4,700 meters) to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) and then Horombo Hut (3,720 meters)

Day Five – From Horombo Hut (3,720 meters) to Marangu Gate (1,870 meters)
