Rongai Route : This is not a usually used route and it has low user turn up. It is the only route that begins from the northern site. It has virgin wilderness experience since it is uncrowded.
It is a bit flat compared to other routes so it may not offer the best views. It will take about 7 or 8 days on this route. The seven or eight day Rongai Routes are highly recommended as Kilimanjaro trekkers have extra days to acclimatize.
Day One – From Rongai Start Point (1,950 meters) to Rongai First Cave (2,620 meters)
Day Two – From Rongai Cave (2,620 meters) to Kikelewa Camp (3,600 meters)
Day Three – From Kikelewa Camp (3,600 meters) to Mawenzi Tarn (4,300 meters)
Day Four –From Mawenzi Tarn (4,300 meters) to Kibo Hut (4,700 meters)
Day Five – From Kibo Hut (4,700 meters) to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) and then Horombo Hut (3,720 meters)
Day Six– From Horombo Hut (3,720 meters) to Marangu Gate (1,870 meters)
