The Unique Attractions of Tanzania’s Southern Circuit

The Unique Attractions of Tanzania’s Southern Circuit : Tanzania’s southern region boasts national parks that offer a wide range of activities, from savannah to wetlands, walking safaris to river safaris. The southern circuit attracts fewer people than the northern circuit, which includes the iconic Mt. Kilimanjaro and Serengeti National Park.

The Southern Circuit Parks include the Selous Game Reserve, now known as Nyerere National Park; Ruaha National Park; Udzungwa Mountains National Park; Mikumi National Park; and Kitulo National Park.

These parks are distinguished by their vastness, remoteness, and virgin landscapes, which are filled with an incredible diversity of animals. The southern circuit is ideal for those looking for a remote safari excursion away from the crowds.

Our Tanzania Southern Circuit Safari itineraries are designed to include activities such as boating, fly-camping, game viewing, hiking, and walking tours that are supplied by the parks. As a result, we recommend that you pack your boots and schedule your safaris with us.

HERE IS A LIST OF A FEW MAJOR TANZANIA SOUTHERN CIRCUIT ATTRACTIONS:

Nyerere National Park (Selous Game Reserve)

This is one of Africa’s most protected and largest wildlife parks. Selous Game Reserve is home to the largest herd of hippos, elephants, buffaloes, wild canines, and a diverse range of birds.  It contains forests, meadows, palms, and great water-based animal viewing. Here, the reddish-brown freshwater of the river meets with the blue seawater of the sea. It is also home to several bird species and dolphins.

The main attractions in the Selous Game Reserve Park include the Rufiji River, Acacia Savannah, and wetlands. Walking and boat safaris are the most popular activities on the Rufiji River.  The best time to visit is between June and December, when hippos may be seen playing in the pool and birds chirping in the evening.

Ruaha National Park

This Park has a fantastic environment that covers over 40,000 square kilometers and is home to the largest population of elephants. It also contains a diverse animal population, including wild dogs, ostriches, cheetahs, antelopes, and over 400 different bird species.

Ruaha has wild and dramatic topography; the finest places to explore are along the river and along the riverside. The bird-watching options in this area are simply outstanding. On the other hand, you can view wonderful animals such as crocodiles and elephants. Never pass up the opportunity to witness the dawn and sunset. It is ideal for dry-season wildlife viewing, outstanding birds, and a rough landscape. The best time to visit here is between June and November to enjoy the fragrant perfume of flowers.

Udzungwa National Park

Udzungwa National Park is a great place to hike away from crowds. In addition to wildlife, forest-covered mountains are home to a diverse range of flora and trees. The Sanje Falls and Prince Bernhard Falls are the main attractions in this park, which also offers swimming and camping opportunities. The optimum time to travel here is from late June until October.

Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park is the most accessible area of the southern circuit; you can see animals all year round, making it an ideal location for those with limited time. This Park is home to a large number of buffalo, wildebeests, zebras, and other wildlife. You can view hippos in the pool while also bird-watching.

Mikumi National Park

Mikumi is an educational and research institution, with one of its continuing initiatives being a field study of yellow baboons, one of only a few long-term primate studies on the continent. The best months to visit are January through December; however, Mikumi National Park is open all year.

Kitulo National Park

Kitulo National Park is known as ‘The Garden of God’, and botanists refer to it as ‘one of the world’s great floral spectacles, or the Serengeti of flowers. It is Tanzania’s best national park for flora.  It is a unique botanical wonder since it is home to over 350 vascular plants, including 45 terrestrial orchids and other wildflowers.

The beautiful flower plants dancing to the strains of charming chirping birds are really entertaining to witness. There are 350 recognized species of wildflowers, including lilies and daisies.

It is the ideal place for bird lovers, who are thrilled to see the uncommon Denham’s bustard. It has a large number of butterflies, chameleons, lizards, and frogs that contribute to the garden’s biological diversity.

 CONCLUSION

The best time to explore this paradise in southern Tanzania is from December to April, when the vegetation is at its most abundant and diverse.  Overall, more people choose the north as their destination, so it will be more congested. So, if you want a less crowded environment, a diverse choice of safaris, and exclusive and distant sites, Tanzania’s southern circuit provides a unique experience.
