8 days Kilimanjaro and Serengeti Wildlife safari is an adventure to Africa’s highest mountain along the oldest hiking route which is called the Marangu route. There are also other routes that tourists can use during their hikes on Mount Kilimanjaro such as the Lemosho route, Umbwe route, Shira route, as well as the Rongai route. These hikes last up to about 5 and more days as you enjoy hiking the mountain.
You will also visit Serengeti national park during your 8 days Kilimanjaro and Serengeti safari which will be in the northern part of Tanzania which is famous for Tanzania tours. During your visit to the national park, you will enjoy seeing the big five such as elephants, lions, leopards, buffalos, rhinos among others.
Serengeti national park is also known for the wildebeest migration which takes place annually and involves movement of thousands of wildebeests from one location to another in search of greener pastures. This wildebeest migration also takes place in Masai Mara national reserve which is located in the south western part of Kenya.
During your 8 days Kilimanjaro and Serengeti safari, you will also visit Ngorongoro conservation area which is famous for the Ngorongoro crater and is also known for various wildlife species in big numbers. Your Tanzania safari will begin and end in Arusha as seen in the itinerary below;

Detailed itinerary
Day 1; Arusha to Kilimanjaro (Marangu) to Mandara Hut
Your guide will pick you up from the airport as you begin your 8 days Kilimanjaro and Serengeti safari. You will be driven from your hotel in Arusha to Marangu gate where you will begin your hiking of Mount Kilimanjaro. With the necessary trekking equipment in place, you will complete registration at the gate and then start your ascend. The hike will take about 4 to 5 hours of your 1st day of trekking.
During your 8 days Kilimanjaro and Serengeti safari, you will also hike through forest on the way to Mandara hut where you will have you dinner and overnight.
Day 2; Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
On the 2nd day of your 8 days Kilimanjaro and Serengeti safari, you will start your hike from Mandara hut and this hike will take about 6 to 8 hours on Mount Kilimanjaro. You will trek through moorland and forests.
You will also enjoy views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks which are some of the peaks on Mount Kilimanjaro. This trail will lead you to Horombo hut where you will spend the night and have your dinner.
Day 3; Horombo Hut– Kibo Hut
After having your breakfast at Horombo hut during your 8 days Kilimanjaro and Serengeti safari, you will start your hike from Horombo hut for a time period of 6 to 8 hours. You will hike through alpine desert vegetation.
You will spend the night and also have your dinner from Kibo hut.
Day 4; Kibo hut to summit and back to Horombo hut
You will have your breakfast at Kibo hut as you prepare for your hike to Uhuru peak which is the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. Your hike to the summit will take about 4 to 5 hours through heath type of vegetation.
You will enjoy watching the sunset from the peak and spend some time there before starting your descend to Horombo hut for dinner and also to spend the night at the end of your 4th day of hiking Mount Kilimanjaro while on your 8 days Kilimanjaro and Serengeti Wildlife safari .
Day 5; Horombo hut to Marangu gate to Arusha
On the last day of your hiking adventure on Mount Kilimanjaro along the Marangu route, you will have breakfast and then start your descend to Marangu gate where you will be rewarded with your certificates and then you will meet your guide for your drive to Arusha where you will check-in and have dinner and overnight at Tulia boutique hotel and spa.
Day 6; drive to Serengeti national park
You will start your day with breakfast at your hotel in Arusha as you prepare for your drive to Serengeti national park where you will enjoy wildlife viewing experiences while on your 8 days Kilimanjaro and Serengeti Wildlife safari. You will have your lunch at your lodge in the national park after checking in.
After your lunch, your guide will drive you around Serengeti national park as you enjoy a Tanzania safari and look out for various wildlife species such as the elephants, lions, leopards, waterbucks, hippos, zebras, giraffes, impalas, dik dik and many others as well as bird species. Dinner and overnight at the end of the day will be at Serengeti heritage luxury tented camp.
Day 7; Full day in Serengeti national park
You will have a whole day to explore Serengeti national park and search for the various wildlife species after having breakfast at your lodge. You will enjoy seeing wildlife species such as giraffes, zebras, antelopes, hippos, lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos among others which are active during the morning.
After having your lunch at your lodge while on your 8 days Kilimanjaro and Serengeti safari, you will have an afternoon game drive to search for other wildlife species and enjoy the amazing scenery in Serengeti national park. You will have your dinner and overnight at Serengeti heritage luxury tented camp.
Day 8; drive to Ngorongoro crater and drive back to Arusha
On the last day of your 8 days Kilimanjaro and Serengeti Wildlife safari , you will have breakfast as you prepare for your drive to Ngorongoro crater. During your experience in Ngorongoro crater, you will enjoy seeing various wildlife species like giraffes, elephants, hippos, buffalos, zebras, wildebeests, black rhinos, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas and many others.
You will also visit Lake Magadi as you explore Ngorongoro crater where you will see numerous flamingos along the shores of the lake as well as other bird species. You will continue your drive back to Arusha which will mark the end of your 8 days Kilimanjaro and Serengeti safari.
